Panama Canal

The issue on this political cartoon is about how Roosevelt was going to buy the canal from Colombia. In the political cartoon it has Roosevelt in front of Colombia with millions of dollars. The cartoonist’s message on this issue is Roosevelt was forcefully getting the canal. In the political cartoon Roosevelt is holding Colombia by the neck. Some other opinions people can say on this issue is Roosevelt wanted to help the people of the U.S. In the political cartoon Uncle Sam, representing America, is in the back smiling ready with a shovel to dig the canal. Some techniques the cartoonist used were labeling and symbolism. In the political cartoon it has the labeling of Colombia and the money, also Uncle Sam is symbolizing America. This cartoon is anti-imperialism. In the political cartoon the U.S. isn’t gaining any land to expand.
